The
Canary Islands have often been referred to as
the
Caribbean in the east of the Atlantic Ocean! Unfortunately not
many of the Canary Islands beaches live up to the
Caribbean ones, seen by many. However the Sand Dunes in
the North of the Island just outside Corralejo do not
only live up to but often outclass those across the
Atlantic. There are many beaches dotted around the coast
of Fuerteventura in fact, 155 to be precise. Many
isolated and accessible by off road transport or via
small boat. As shown left is one of the town beaches in
Corralejo. Many of the photographs taken
and shown on this website are taken from places of
interest within walking distance of the apartments or a
short drive away from the

As written in the Sunday Times Feb 2009 about
Fuerteventura.....
The
seas the blue of the Maldives, the sands as soft as St
Lucia's, yet this flawless sweep is just 4 1/2 hours
away on a cheap flight. That is why Fuerteventura basks
in adulation from pasty faced, bleak mid-winter Brits.
There is also the ever barmy climate - 3000 hours of
sunshine annually to be exact. All that means crowds,
of course, but it does not take much to escape them -
the thrumming resorts are clustered about the
southernmost and northernmost tips of the island. Which
leaves more than 150 beaches pretty much hoard free.
You will be pleased you went the extra mile (or 10)
after you have lazed away a few days on floury sands
like these, watching tiny white sails flutter on the
horizon. This side of Fuerteventura is a tranquil
retreat, studded with secret lagoons and volcanic caves,
and teaming with marine life: innocuous angel sharks
flit by while iridescent guelly jacks feed greedily in
the shallows. The apocryphal islands of Atlantis is
said to have sunk close by, another reason to keep those
eyes peeled whilst snorkelling. Words Annunciati Walton
